In this era, we are giving more importance to the technologies based on software and which can be implemented in form of hardware.  In this information technology age, multitasking devices have been developed by the various companies through which we can effortlessly perform various tasks. One of the best examples is computer systems, it tends to meet our various kinds of requirements, used in various fields ranging from space exploration to food processing and banking to communication etc.
Information technology has revolutionized whole world, even government has not only proclaimed but recognized the promising future of this industry and formed a new IT ministry which will boost up this industry.  Few of the multinational companies like IBM, HP has made possible transfer of hardware technology into the country.  Internet has further bridged the time gap ensuring arrival of latest technology simultaneously in INDIA. Software giants like IBM, MOTOROLA, ORACLE, SAMSUNG, FUGITSU, HP  and more  have started software centres in country. Instead of this, many Indian IT companies like INFOSYS, VIPRO, MASKET  are expanding themselves on broad manner making their presence felt globally.
Two main Components of Information Technology:
1. Hardware: Computer hardware are component devices which are typically installed into or peripheral to a computer case to create a personal computer upon which system software is installed. It consists of various physical elements of the computer system. 
It’s main functional areas are Manufacturing , based on work of production and assembly of various components of computer systems;  Maintenance, ensures the smooth functioning of computer and also helps in detecting as well as rectifying the errors; Research and development,  includes designing of chips, circuits etc and also integral of peripherals.
2. Software: Computer software is a collection of computer programs and related data that provides the instructions for telling a computer what to do and how to do it. It consists of updating and modifying of various existing operations.

Opportunities in this component comes with different fields. Programming, Database Management and Administration, Software Engineering, Software management, quality and metrics and a lot more.


Career Purpose:

Information Technology comprises of several activities like office Automation, Telecommunication and Computing, therefore provides a larger area of job avenues for those who have acquired the right qualifications for it. NASSCOM, National Association of Software and Services Companies made an estimate that India would require 10,00,000 trained software professionals in few years. In this sector, current demand is more and it is find that very less people are desired to work in this field due to unawareness. So we can conclude that this sector is going to provide employment to a large number of such professionals.
